Setting & Style

The hotel stands on Via del Proconsolo in Florence’s Historic Centre, between the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore and Piazza della Signoria. The Bargello Museum is almost immediately outside the hotel, while narrow medieval streets connect the property with Dante’s district and many of the city’s principal Renaissance landmarks.

Interiors combine historic architectural elements with a refined contemporary approach. Marble flooring, stone columns and vaulted spaces sit alongside modern furnishings, while selected rooms incorporate frescoes, tapestries and decorative references to Renaissance Florence. Many upper-floor rooms also capture views over the surrounding rooftops and monuments.

Accommodation

The hotel offers 100 rooms and suites across six floors. Current room categories begin with 16-square-metre Queen Rooms, followed by 18-square-metre Classic Rooms, 20-square-metre Superior Rooms and 24-square-metre Deluxe Rooms. Triple Deluxe Rooms measure approximately 26 square metres and can accommodate up to three guests.

Suites range from 28-square-metre Junior Suites and 30-square-metre Suites to the 44-square-metre Affreschi Suite, 49-square-metre Beatrice Suite and 50-square-metre Family Suites accommodating up to five guests. Amenities vary by category but generally include Wi-Fi, minibar, safe, electric kettle, satellite television and climate control, while selected suites add balconies, additional living space and distinctive frescoed interiors.

Dining

A generous American-style buffet breakfast is served each morning in an atmospheric ground-floor room decorated by Galileo Chini. Sweet selections include cakes, pastries, waffles and pancakes, while savoury choices range from eggs and breakfast meats to cheeses, cold cuts, vegetables and breads. Vegetarian and gluten-free products are also available.

Divina Terrazza, the hotel’s rooftop American bar, serves cocktails and wines against one of the property’s most memorable views. The terrace looks across the Florentine skyline towards Brunelleschi’s Dome and Palazzo Vecchio and operates throughout the year, subject to weather, opening times and availability. The surrounding historic centre also provides an exceptional concentration of trattorie, restaurants and wine bars within walking distance.

Facilities & Experiences

A fitness centre allows guests to maintain their regular exercise routine, while the hotel also provides meeting and event facilities within historic rooms decorated with period and Art Nouveau elements. Reception and concierge services can assist with local arrangements and the practical requirements of a city stay.

The rooftop terrace is itself one of the hotel’s principal experiences, particularly around sunset when Florence’s medieval and Renaissance skyline is illuminated from above. With the majority of the city’s major monuments accessible on foot, the hotel is especially well suited to travellers who prefer to explore Florence without relying on regular transport.

Heritage & Architecture

The hotel occupies the historic Palazzo Baldovini, developed from several earlier medieval residences and later transformed into a substantial Florentine palazzo. The building was already documented as a hotel by the nineteenth century and became particularly associated with politicians and public figures during the years when Florence served as capital of the Kingdom of Italy.

Historic elements remain visible within the property, including sections of an earlier internal courtyard with substantial stone columns. Particularly distinctive are the decorative paintings and stained glass created by Galileo and Tito Chini around 1930, combining Liberty and Neo-Renaissance influences. Today these layers of architecture and decoration give Grand Hotel Cavour a character closely tied to the evolving history of central Florence.

Location

Grand Hotel Cavour is located at Via del Proconsolo 3, Florence, in the heart of the UNESCO-listed historic centre. The Bargello Museum is approximately 70 metres away, Casa di Dante around 100 metres and Piazza della Signoria approximately 300 metres from the hotel.

The Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore and Basilica di Santa Croce are around 400 metres away, while the Uffizi Gallery is approximately 500 metres and Ponte Vecchio about 600 metres from the property. Firenze Santa Maria Novella railway station can also be reached on foot, making the hotel particularly convenient for a sightseeing-focused stay in Florence.
